Butterfly Jig

If your goal is to catch a wide array of fish, with incredible frequency than the Butterfly Jig is the lure you have been looking for. This 3D shaped jig, features Stinger hooks at the top of the lure rather than the bottom; like a traditional jig. This unique set up allows the lure to move freely with what has been described as a “butterfly-like flutter action”. Due to this action the jig has less chance of hooking an underwater structure.
This Jig was first made popular in the early 90’s. Japanese Anglers used this lure to fish for Bluefin Tuna in depths reaching up to 500ft. Today the Butterfly jig is still used to catch Tuna, but has also shown to be proficient in landing Grouper, Snapper, and Amberjack. In order to hook these fish, you need to master the unique jigging action.
Within the first five minutes of fishing the Butterfly Jigs, I already saw a noticeable difference between a traditional jig and a Butterfly jig. When retrieving this lure, it wouldn’t jump straight up and down like a traditional jig, instead the line would go semi-slack for a minute. After retrieving the jig several yards off the bottom, its possible to let line back out generously and let the jig slowly “flutter” back to the bottom. As with any new lure practice makes perfect. Once you get used to this action, it will be hard to keep fish off your line.
